Paragon Bioservices: a Model for Biotech Growth in MD
Spun from a two-person operation at Johns Hopkins University to a staff of 50 at the University of Maryland BioPark in Baltimore, the 20-year old contract research and manufacturing firm paves the way as a model for biotech growth in Maryland. Paragon recently won a $5 million contract from the U.S. Army to help develop a vaccine for the deadly Ebola virus and was awarded a Translational Research Award from the MBC for its stem cell consortium. In 2010, Paragon underwent a second expansion, doubling its existing manufacturing capacity to 50,000-square-feet.
