Paragon Bioservices, Inc., provides cell culture production and research services to pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies as well as academic institutions.

Founded in 1990, Paragon is a preclinical contract research organization located at The Johns Hopkins Bayview Research Campus in Baltimore, MD.
Our mission is to partner with Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology companies as well as Academic labs in accelerating genomics and proteomics based drug discovery. We have anticipated the outsourcing needs?of these sectors and have worked diligently in structuring an integrated series of services in response to these needs.

The hallmark of our success is our ability to function as an extension of our clients own laboratories, where the clients are in control of their projects and all work is performed under strict confidentiality.
Cell Culture & Fermentation Services
Paragon maintains a cell bank of mammalian and insect cells as well as bacterial strains which are utilized in research projects, for functional assays and assay development, for recombinant protein expression, for production of monoclonal antibodies, or as a source for sub-cellular fractions - purification of organelles, Hela nuclear extracts, and membrane preps.

Recombinant Protein Expression
Using multiple expression systems, Paragon has the capacity to produce up to gram quantities of recombinant proteins, including bacteria/yeast, baculovirus, and mammalian expression systems. Whether you're focused on lead discovery, production of identified targets for high throughput screening, or characterization of interesting gene products, we can help.
 
Protein Purification
A critical aspect in biopharmaceutical development is that expected functional activity must be associated with a single protein and that a formulation must be devoid of any contaminants including LPS, host cell DNA, viruses, etc. It is imperative, therefore, that therapeutic proteins, recombinant vaccines and diagnostic protein reagents be produced while achieving the highest level of purity possible.
Combining its skills developed over the last 12 years in protein biochemistry, analytical chemistry, and funct?onal assays, Paragon delivers efficient and cost effective solutions in protein purification and process development under Good Laboratory Practices in anticipation of future GMP manufacturing needs.
 
Proteomics Services - Protein Characterization
Paragon is meeting the "proteomics" challenge - a new paradigm in pharmaceutical development involving the systematic study of the protein complement - the proteome, by providing our clients with such research services as purification of organelles and 2-D gel electrophoresis.
 
Virus Production & Purification
Paragon's capabilities in virus production and purification attempts to address critical national public health needs, including gene therapy (adenovirus and adeno-associated viruses - AAV's), recombinant vaccines (virus-like particles - VLP's), infectious diseases (bacteriophages). We further seek to serve our national security imperative of bioterrorism control via the production of simulant organisms.
 
Process Development
Technological advances in genomics, proteomics, target validation, and lead compound identification have created a substantial need for contract services along the entire length of the development pipeline.
